Si tratta della rielaborazione in chiave rock dell'omonima composizione pianistica del 1874 di Modest Musorgskij. Nel disco le partiture originali del musicista sono alternate alle composizioni del trio: Emerson Lake and Palmer hanno saputo integrare bene il loro contributo, tanto che è difficile capire dove termina il lavoro di Musorgskij e dove comincia quello del gruppo. In più l'album è impreziosito dal fatto di essere stato registrato dal vivo. Il fattore più ecclatante è che in questo concerto Palmer ha "solo" 21 anni, cosa che aggiunge ancora più valore all'opera in sè.
